Top Reasons We Love Union Village

Homearama® Lifestyle Edition is back, presenting a brand new hometown: Union Village. This unique enclave will be home to the first single-site Homearama since 2012, allowing visitors to truly appreciate the charm and community of this new neighborhood. Although new, Union Village already has an established sense of place with a carefully thought-out design we can’t wait for Homearama visitors to experience.

The truth is that we couldn’t be more excited about Homearama Lifestyle Edition happening here, and though we have plenty of reasons to love this place, here are some of our favorite things about Union Village.

Why we love Union Village

Community Design

Union Village is built with community in mind. This 1,230-acre, master-planned community was designed by nationally recognized town architect, Michael Watkins. His Union Village plan won the inaugural Pope Award for Urban Design back in 2015. Now we get to see that award-winning design come to life.

The master plan strives to put all the essentials within a 10-minute walk. Based on new urbanism, Union Village promotes walkability, sustainability and a high quality of life. To create a distinct neighborhood, the community features a discernible center of town: The Union Village Square. Here, you can find local restaurants and shops as well as town events and live music. Individual neighborhoods radiate out from here, each with its own green or civic space. All of these factors create the perfect combination of a small town feel with a compact urban footprint.

Connected Neighbors

Union Village is all about connectivity and creating a community of neighbors. Primarily, it’s about people and promotes a front porch kind of lifestyle: Pull up a chair, relish the views and get to know your neighbors.

An emphasis on public open spaces, like the Union Village Square, also provides an opportunity to build community, and town events help residents get to know each other. Being pedestrian-friendly and sustainable also promotes good health and eco-friendly practices.

The new home town creates opportunities for people from all walks of life. Mixed housing, even on the same block, will create a wide range of residential options varying in size, type and price. This ensures a diverse and inclusive community where everyone is welcome. It also means friends and family can live within walking distance of each other, opening up doors for intergenerational opportunities. All of this makes Union Village uniquely qualified as the perfect place to call home.

Nature Lover

Don’t think Union Villagers will miss out on greenery. On the contrary, the completed community will feature more than 200 acres in a greenway system consisting of trails, meadows and parks that connect neighborhoods and lead to the county park and a recreational lake. Each neighborhood is designed to have its own easily accessible park. To create an established feel, Union Village also boasts tree-lined streets that add to the beauty of the community. So far, over 350 trees have been planted.

This is music to the ears of those who love spending time outdoors or who simply love being surrounded by living things. We know we can’t wait to see the gorgeous fall colors coming in just in time for Homearama.

Sustainable Promise

As part of new urbanism, Union Village is a sustainable community. Being pedestrian friendly, it promotes walking and bicycling over driving. Additionally, with basic needs all within a 10-minute walk, the need to drive is decreased.

Since the community is a ground-up project (rather than a place where pre-existing buildings are revitalized), it takes an environmentally friendly approach by utilizing the land and natural resources responsibly. Buildings feature eco-friendly materials and technologies; while the community respects natural systems and ecology. Union Village also strives for energy efficiency and limited use of fossil fuels.

A History in Craftsmanship

Union Village was once the site of one of the largest Shaker Villages in Ohio, and the new community will take full advantage of that history and craftsmanship. Inspired by the historic and timeless architecture found throughout Southern Ohio, the homes and buildings in Union Village capture a simpler time of understated elegance inspired by Shaker craftsmanship. It also takes inspiration from communities like Mariemont and Hyde Park, presenting a unique and unforgettable character and charm. The village’s design code guarantees that all homes and buildings meet the highest standards of design and craftsmanship.

Location, Location, Location

Union Village is made even more perfect by its ideal location between Cincinnati and Dayton, giving residents easy access to both. While designed to put most things within walking distance for residents, the site is also great for commuters as it’s only two miles from I-75. Warren County Sports Park and Warren County Armco Park are within walking distance, and a short drive will take you to downtown Lebanon, Cincinnati-Monroe Premium Outlets and Liberty Center.

We’re sure you’ll fall in love with Union Village, too. Get your tickets now to see this charming new community during Homearama, October 2 – 17.
